‘An Interview with Failure’ by Sam Yankelevitch is a book that discusses failure in depth. This has been done using a unique concept. The writer has written the book in dialogue form. The dialogue is between an interviewer and ‘failure’ itself. ‘Failure’ has been classified as a character here. A character with responses to doubts and questions. This book has dissected the term ‘failure’ and given readers a broader perspective on what it means. This ‘dissection’ is done throughout the book over a series of interviews. Each interview brings new light on how one can view the term failure. New light into how one can regain control of his/her life.

The first thing I enjoyed about the book was the whole idea that it has been written on. The idea of having a conversation with failure itself is unique. It is something that I have never thought of before. Finding content that is extremely original in modern times is quite rare. This was refreshing and enjoyable to begin with. Many self-help books have been written in many styles. They may list information that can sometimes feel like a bunch of content that doesn’t directly speak to us. This style felt more personal and relatable. The question-answer style made me feel like many questions within me were being answered.

I enjoyed that the writer has encouraged the idea of life being what you see it as. This is one’s attitude toward his/her life. The importance of the significance placed by an individual on different aspects of their lives has been explained. This has been done very clearly. The writer has used common examples, such as the distinction between black and white, to help readers understand better. Many words come into the vocabulary of individuals over time. These words carry different meanings and it is up to us to determine whether they mean something useful to us or not. Similarly, we are bound to experience new situations as we age. This gave me a new viewpoint on many aspects of my life. It enabled me to look at situations with a broader perspective.

I felt empowered while reading this book. It reminded me of how much control I have in life. Control over my thoughts and actions and how I perceive those of others. Although this is a renowned fact, it is something that we easily forget. Therefore, I appreciated this reminder very much.

This is an excellent book that readers of all ages must try, irrespective of where they are in life. It has many great reminders that are crucial for our growth. It also opened my mind to a world of thoughts. These thoughts helped me see different situations with a fresh perspective. Readers will be able to understand that success is what they see it as. I understood that being successful is a journey and not a final destination.

Other than a few flaws in the editing, there is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book. I would therefore rate the book four out of five (4/5) stars.
